How to Recognize God’s Voice

Ps. 46:10 • I Sam. 3:9 • Jn. 10:4 • Col. 3:15 Amp.

  1. Training Your Spiritual Ear
    1. It’s possible to hear, but not recognize God’s voice.
    2. Samuel heard a voice and thought it was Eli. I Sam. 3:9
    3. God spoke to Jesus, but people thought it was thunder. Jn. 12:28
  2. God Speaks to Your Spirit
    1. Man is a triune being; spirit, soul, body
      Body connected to the physical realm
      Soul (mind, emotions) connected to the sense realm
      (Human) spirit connected to spiritual realm – God
    2. God speaks to your inner man, a.k.a. human spirit
    3. An internal cell phone that gets turned “on” when you get born again.
    4. A traffic light with God’s voice sending you a ‘red, yellow or green’ signal.

    1. The Bible, His written Word (logos)
    2. Through the Holy Spirit, His spoken Word (rhema)
    3. Peace in your spirit
  4. Peace is Your Umpire
    1. It’s common to have peace in your spirit, but fear and doubt in your mind. Pr. 3:7, II Co. 10:5
    2. Timing is often an issue.
    3. If you lose your peace, stop and back up.
    4. If Bible doesn’t address a specific subject, follow peace.
  5. Responding to God’s Voice
    1. Wait prayerfully on the Lord
    2. Reveal a scripture, heart attitude, sin exposed…
    3. Adjust your perspective
    4. Obey His Word, regardless of feelings
