How Do I Find the Right Church Home?

“But now God has set the members every one of them in the Body, as it has pleased Him.” I Co. 12:18

You don’t choose a church like you choose a restaurant. It’s His choice, and not necessarily the one closest to your home. When it’s alive, it’s worth the drive!

1. Eight Signs of a Great Church
   1. Do you see God’s love among the people?
   2. Is the Bible honored as God’s inspired Word? II Tm. 3:16
   3. Salvation comes only by trusting in Jesus’ Blood. Jn. 14:6
   4. Classes appropriate for all ages Ps. 34:11
   5. Involved in world evangelism Mt. 28:19
   6. Praise and worship lifts you into His Presence. Ps. 100
   7. The ministry of the Holy Spirit is welcomed. I Th. 5:19
   8. The Gifts and Fruit of the Spirit are demonstrated. I Co. 12, Ga. 5
   9. Altar ministry and personal prayer offered. Ex. 20:24
   10. You will often sense a connection with the leaders’ vision. Pr. 29:18
2. Is Membership Necessary?
   1. “Faithfulness” is God’s definition of membership.
   2. Can you think of any healthy relationship without commitment?
   3. Being committed until inconvenienced is either immature or selfish.
   4. Membership makes you accountable.
   5. Membership matures and develops you.
   6. Be faithful in attendance, finances and service. “A faithful man shall abound in blessings…” Pr. 28:20
   7. Jesus attended synagogue weekly. Lk 4:16, Mt. 13:24
3. Dangers of Church Hopping
   1. Restaurant mentality: Where do I want to eat today?
   2. Produces a selfish what’s-in-it-for-me mentality.
   3. Services that make you shout don’t usually require you to grow.
   4. Lack of accountability to a pastoral team reveals lack of character.
   5. Being connected to a local body reveals the real you and requires growth.
   6. Relationships can’t grow.
   7. Emphasis is on getting blessed personally, instead of serving others.
